On July 31, 2019 (84 FR 37059), the Department of Transportation (DOT) published a final rule in the federal register revising the minimum and maximum civil penalty amounts for inflation to improve their effectiveness and preserve their deterrent impact for violations of certain DOT regulations. These regulations include: 14 CFR Parts 13 and 406 (Federal Aviation Administration); 14 CFR Part 383 (Office of the Secretary); 33 CFR Part 401 (Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation); 46 CFR Parts 221- 356 (Maritime Administration); 49 CFR Parts 107, 171 and 190 (Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration); 49 CFR Parts 209 – 272 (Federal Railroad Administration); 49 CFR Part 386 (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration); and 49 CFR Part 578 (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). This final rule is effective on July 31, 2019.
